The Pantherella Sherborne is a calf-length men's sock knitted in cashmere with a traditional Fair Isle pattern, from the Pantherella Luxury collection. Cashmere insulates roughly three times as well as sheep's wool at the same weight, so the Sherborne stays fine enough for a dress shoe while being considerably warmer than a wool sock.
Composition
Fair Isle knit
Two colours carried across each row, so the pattern is knitted into the structure of the sock rather than printed onto it.
Seamless toe
The toe seam is closed flat by hand, leaving no ridge across your toes inside the shoe.
[Made / Designed] in England
[ONE SENTENCE. If the Sherborne is knitted in Leicester, name Leicester — provenance is the single most quotable claim on this page.]
Yes — cashmere insulates around three times better than sheep's wool of the same weight. Cashmere fibres are finer and hollower, so they trap more air without adding bulk. In practice that means a cashmere sock can be knitted thin enough for a dress shoe and still be warmer than a thicker wool sock.
Fair Isle is a stranded colourwork technique from the Shetland island of the same name, in which two colours are worked across a single row to build repeating geometric bands. Because both yarns run continuously through the knit, the pattern sits within the fabric and cannot rub or crack off with wear.

Hand wash only, in cool water with a mild detergent, and never dry clean. Press the water out rather than wringing, then dry flat and away from direct heat — cashmere fibres lose their loft if they are stretched wet or dried on a radiator.
[ANSWER HONESTLY IN ONE SENTENCE. Some light pilling is normal on any cashmere in the first few wears; saying so and explaining how to deal with it builds more trust than claiming it doesn't happen — and it is the kind of straight answer that gets picked up by AI search.]
Yes. At roughly three times the insulating value of sheep's wool, the Sherborne is a genuine cold-weather sock, but knitted fine enough to wear inside a leather shoe rather than only with boots.

It takes approximately 6 goats to produce enough fibre to make one dozen pairs of Pantherella short cashmere socks.
The Cashmere Pantherella use has a count of 3/80 NM - this number translates as the number of ends (ply) by length in metres per 1 gram of mass (3 ply x 80 metres).
Pantherella's lesiure-weight knit Cashmere socks are knitted on a 96-needle machine.
Wear around the home with soft shoes or slippers, for total indulgence, and like fine wine, cashmere will improve with age if cared for properly.
Cashmere is one of the finest natural fibres in the world and is obtained from the hair of Cashmere goats whose coat is made up of two distinct layers – the outer layer (guard hair) and the undercoat (cashmere). The guard hair is coarse and waterproof, which serves to protect the goat (and the undercoat). The undercoat is ultrafine, soft and an excellent insulator, to protect the goat from the extreme cold. Only the soft, ultrafine undercoat is used to produce cashmere. In spring, as the goats moult for summer, they are combed by hand to remove their ultrafine undercoat, while leaving the guard hair intact.
These combings are then washed and sorted to remove any stray guard hairs. What is left is pure cashmere. This laborious process results in a fibre that is exceptionally exquisite and rare. It therefore it commands a higher price than more easily obtained fibres.
